The City of Miami has Code Enforcement has officers on call on evenings, Monday through Thursday from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Friday and Saturday for 24 hours, and Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm to respond to resident complaints.
The officer on call uses a mobile phone which can be reach by calling (786) 457-0995.
If it is a busy night and they are responding to a call, the officer may not respond immediately, but they do call back. If you have not been able to reach an officer at night, wait and call back 30 minutes later. The officer will ask your name and address (where the noise is being heard), and the address of the establishment you want to complain about, if you are complaining about a bar, restaurant or club, have that address ready to give. You do not need to give your name to make a noise complaint, you can maintain anonymity if privacy is a concern.
Evening noise complaints from Monday to Thursday, 10:00 pm – 9:00 am, or Sunday 5:00 pm to 9:00 am, must happen though the City of Miami Police, as code enforcement officers will NOT be on shift. Call the Non-Emergency Phone number of the City of Miami Police Department at (305) 579-6111 to make a complaint.
Caveats:
Only City of Miami Code Enforcement Officers have the authority to give written violations to persons or business establishments. When it comes to repeat offenders, what matters is written violations which receive a $500 fine, a potential lien, and the potential to revoke a business license. Once a business or person gets a written violation or fine, they will cannot receive another one until the next business day. It is very possible that code enforcement has issued a violation to an establishment, and they turned the volume “back up” after the office left. When it comes to repeat violators, using code enforcement to get written violations is the only means the city has to penalize an establishment. This is the best option to use when it is available.
City of Miami Police Officers can only give oral warnings to persons and establishments to “turn it down,” they cannot give written citations. This is your only option on Monday-Thursday and Sunday nights.
Make sure you document your call to code enforcement or the police, and send your DNA representative and email when it happens, so we can keep a record and follow up with City Officials if needed.
When it comes to egregious and habitual offenders, you will need to contact your DNA representative for special assistance.
